Announcement | May 24, 2013
On Monday, May 20th, the two Division finals took place, and the following Wednesday we handed out the trophies at our end of season party. In the A Division the top seed and defending champions, Return of the Mutants, faced off against the tough newcomers from Two Bits, the Powerballers, in a close and hard fought match at Reciprocal. The two teams split the first three rounds and headed into the final 4 singles games tied 6 to 6. However, the Powerballers took the next three games and finished the match 9 to 7 to claim their first championship.
Over at Satellite Lounge on Monday the two brethren teams from Amsterdam Billiards, the Damned Refugees and Factory of Sadness faced off to determine the B Division champion. The Monday night team, the Damned Refugees, got off to a hot start and went ahead 8 to 3. While the Refugees needed only one more point to secure their first championship, the Factory of Sadness team fought back and won the next 5 singles games to force a tie breaker. In the end, the shift in momentum helped to carry the upstart Factory of Sadness team to the division title.
On Wednesday we gathered at Satellite Lounge for a little pinball, a few drinks, and to hand out the awards and trophies (my teammate Aaron Stern took some great photos). Individuals who recorded high scores this past season received a newly redesigned model miniature of the machine they recorded the score on, including a newly introduced Pinball 2000 model! Of course, the top two teams got medals and prizes for their efforts, and the two winners were handed the league trophies which will soon be on display at their home bars. Prizes included Pinball NYC pint glasses featuring the Mission Dolores logo on the back, Brooklyn Brewery gift certificates, a gift certificate from our friends at the Owl Farm, and coupons for entry into the upcoming Metallica launch party from our friends at Rock Fantasy in nearby Middletown (now featuring 29 pinball machines!). Mad thanks to all of those who donated prizes.
Spring 2013 was an awesome season of league pinball, and I thank everyone who helped make it such a success. The next season starts up in the Fall, but we have some nice things planned for the summer — stay tuned!
