11:00 am to 6:00 pm
The New York City Flipper Sport Association is hosting the Bi-Borough Pin-Golf Classic. The tournament is an IFPA recognized and a full WPPR point event. The 18 pin-hole course is split between two locations. The “front nine” is at Reciprocal Skateboards, 402 E 11th St, Manhattan and the “back nine” is at Jackbar, 143 Havemeyer St, Brooklyn. It is 4-stroke maximum format to keep things moving over 18 pin-holes. There is a 10 dollar entry fee with a 100% payout to the six winners. All players pay for their own games during the match. Sign-in at Reciprocal Skateboards beginning at 11:00 am. Tee–off time is 12:00 pm sharp. The duration will be approximately six hours. This event is limited to the first 24 participants to sign in. Late arrivals will be admitted at a penalty (see below 1). This is a unique event will involve a short subway ride (NYC MetroCard required) and an easy walk to complete the course. The winners will be a determined at the end of the 18 pin-hole course. This tournament is organized with the cooperation of Jonathan Ehrlich and Robert Sovatsky.
Each player plays for a designated target score (e.g. 15M on Fish Tales). The number of balls played to reach the target score will be counted as “strokes” (e.g. a player scores 15M or higher on Fish Tales in one ball that would be a hole-in-one and the player’s score would be one for that hole). Scores are cumulative for the 18 pin-holes and the goal is to finish the course with the fewest strokes.
Groupings will be determined by the organizer. Players will play in groups of two or more players. All groups will be roughly equal size groups so we all finish around the same time. The playing order at tee-off is decided by the players within the group. After that, the player with the lowest score choses their spot in the tee-off order on the following pin-hole. The competitor with the second lowest score choses next so on. If two or more competitors have the same score at a pin-hole, they will play in the same order as the previous pin-hole.
Score cards are maintained by the members of the group and all players are responsible for checking and rechecking the accuracy of their own scores and their group scores.
There is a course maximum of 4 pin-strokes per pin-hole. Should a player not reach the target score after playing 3 balls, record a score of 4. (Play 5 balls in 5-ball games with maximum pin-stroke score of 6 for not reaching the target score.)
We intend to play 18 holes (see below 2). Each game will count as one pin-hole played. The games will be single player. (In the case of two-player groups, two-player games may be played.) When the player has reached the target score or finished a 3-ball game, the turn moves to the next player. If a player earns an extra ball, this will not be counted as an additional pin-stroke, but rather as a continuation of the current ball being played.
When a player has reached the target score stop play and briefly shut-off the game to reset it for the next player. This will save time. When the group is done at a pin-hole, move on to the next open pin-hole. Please stay with your group at all times.
If a player takes a break from the tournament and leaves their group, please make it as brief as possible and report your intended return time to your group (see below 4a). There will be a break after “the front nine” for travel and refreshments. If possible commute with your group. When an entire group arrives at the “back nine” they may begin if an organizer is present (see below 4b&c).
At the end of 18 holes, payout is determined. The players who finish the pin-course with the fewest pin-strokes are the winners.
1. Late arriving players may participate with a 1-stroke penalty if they arrive during a hole actively being played (there is still a course maximum of 4 pin-strokes per pin-hole), and for any missed holes a late arriving participant will get a score of 4 for each missed hole.
2. (a) If less than 18 machines are available for play, prior to the match the organizer will select a game(s) to be played multiple times to attain a 18-hole course. (b) In the case of limited machine availability, the organizer reserves the right to reduce the number of pin-holes required to complete the course. (c) Machine failure mid-match: If this occurs, organizer will determine whether a new pin-hole needs to be selected to finish the 18 pin-holes (i.e. it may be that it would be irrelevant to replay the entire pin-hole on a different machine if those who need to complete it have no chance of placing). If it is decided to replay the entire pin-hole on a different machine, the player(s) with the best score on the cancelled pin-hole selects the new game. In the case disagreement, then a coin toss (or other appropriate lot method) will be done and the winner selects the new game. The organizer reserves the right to cancel the entire pin-hole on all score sheets. (d) The machines need not be functioning “perfectly” for this tournament. We are all playing the same course. Features or flippers etc. not functioning properly is forgivable as long as the malfunctions are not favoring the chances of one player over another. Catastrophic failure may lead to the elimination of that pin-hole from the tournament. All final decisions regarding game malfunctions, machine elimination, replaying holes and number of holes played, cancellation of pin-holes etc. will be made by the organizer.
3. (a) If there are ties, the player with the most “holes-in-one” will place higher. If “holes-in-one” are tied, then a coin toss (or other appropriate lot method) will be done and the winner selects the machine and playing order for a single tie-breaker match for high score (extra balls are NOT played). The organizer reserves the right to use the side-tournament results as the tie-breaker.
4. (a) Player delays of three or more minutes, whatever the cause, may result in losing a turn and having balls plunged counting them as pin-strokes. (b) After the break, if a player is not present with their group and the rest of the group is ready to continue for 15 or more minutes, then this may result in losing a turns and having balls plunged counting them as pin-strokes. (c) If an entire group is missing for 15 or more minutes and the rest of the groups have finished at least one pin-hole then this may result in the group losing an entire pin-hole. In all instances, a missed pin-hole will receive a score of 4 for a 3 ball game (or 6 for a 5 ball game). All final decisions regarding player delays will be made by the organizer.
5. In the case of low attendance, the organizer reserves the right to recalculate the payout percentages. If there are less than 12 participants than the break down will be: 1st place- 40%, 2nd place- 30%, 3rd place- 20%, 4th place- 10%. If there are less than 7 participants than the break down will be as such: 1st place- 50%, 2nd place- 30%, 3rd place- 20%
