Announcement | November 15, 2013
Week 9 of the Fall 2013 season shook a few things up, but it also brought the playoff picture into sharper focus. While most of the playoff teams have been determined, there are a few key spots that hinge on the outcome of Week 10. Moreover, many teams will be fighting for that ever important home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Here is a breakdown:
The formidable, and former champs, the Mutants have only loss once this year, and have secured a home field advantage in the playoffs. Last year’s B-Division champs, Factory of Sadness, have been impressive in the A Division this season, and have secured a playoff spot. However, Monday’s match between them and the Terrorwrists will determine which of these two teams gets home field advantage in the first round. Both teams are guaranteed to meet in round one, but will it be at JackBar or at Amsterdam Billiards? Meanwhile, the final playoff spot will likely go to either The New York City Flipper Sport Association (Reciprocal) or Flipped Out (Mission Dolores). As both teams have the same record going into the final week, it may all come down to those ever important match points. However, The Multiballers are not yet eliminated from the playoffs. If they beat Flipped Out, and Flipper Sport loses on Monday, then they would get the final playoff spot.
Former B Division champs, Lost in the Zone, have had another impressive season, and have secured home field advantage in the playoffs. However, after big losses by the Pin Pals and the Commonauts in week 9, the overall playoff picture has changed dramatically since the prior week. The Cartel pulled off an impressive upset of the first place Pin Pals in week 8 which, combined with the Commonaut’s loss, shot them up into 3rd place in the standings. Meanwhile, The 2 for 1er’s continue to play hard and are in a comfortable position going into the final week — a match to be played at their home, where they have dominated all season.
While The Cartel and The 2 for 1er’s are in a comfortable position going into the final week, neither team is guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. If one or both of these teams lose on Monday, then the Commonauts could claim their playoff spot — provided, of course, they win on the road in their final match. Even more interesting is the possibility that a loss by the Pin Pals in week 10 could result in their loss of home field advantage in the playoffs. A loss by the Pin Pals combined with a strong win by The Cartel would mean that The Cartel would claim the final home field advantage spot in the playoffs. Should be interesting!
The Tuesday B Division playoff picture is currently in the sharpest focus, with the four playoff teams already in place. What is not yet determined is who will get the second home-field advantage spot. The Compadres have run away with the Division having yet to lose a game all season. While they may be the favorites, don’t count any of the other teams out. Balls of Steel have played very strongly and are currently in 2nd place. A win at home in their final match will secure their home field advantage. The Lesser Players and Danger Danger both close out at home as well. However, The Lesser Players have the added advantage of NOT playing the Compadres, while Danger Danger will be playing them. This means, that barring some major upsets, round one of the playoffs will see the Compadres hosting Danger Danger, and Balls of Steel hosting The Lesser Players.
Please note that week 10 is the final week to record individual league high scores. Also, Friday, November 22nd will be the final day to submit those high scores. After that, the books are closed.
