Put down your joysticks, step away from the internet, grab your friends, and come knock that little metal ball around while tossing back a few drinks!
MANHATTAN and BROOKLYN, JANUARY 5, 2011 — The game that was once illegal in New York City for more than 40 years is now hot again, and the Pinball New York City League is adding fuel to the fire. Starting January 17th, teams will meet in bars throughout the city, every Monday night for the course of the season, to compete in the new pinball league. Each team will have a host bar that will serve as their “home field,” and each week teams will compete either at their “home” bar or at their opponent’s bar.
“I want to give people an excuse to gather together, have a few drinks, share some laughs, and play some pinball,” says Pinball New York City founder, Kris Medina. The league is a co-ed league that encourages both diehard fans and casual gamers alike to participate. “I don’t want to cater only to the existing pinball community,” says Mr. Medina, “I want the game to grow in popularity. Pinball is a great game with a rich history, and once you get a taste you hunger for more.”
The league is free to join and interested players should put a team together and visit the Pinball New York City Website, www.pinballnyc.com, to find a “League Approved” bar. Once a bar is chosen, simply fill out the online registration form and your team will be entered into the league.
At the Pinball NYC website you can not only track league play and learn about upcoming events, but you can also find a comprehensive list of where to play pinball in the city. For newcomers there is also a simple guide on how to play pinball, as well as game play information on each pinball machine found in the city. Rounding out the content is little bits of pinball history and trivia peppered throughout the site.
Founded late in 2010, Pinball New York City was created out of a passion for pinball and a desire to expose the game to a wider audience. Through a co-ed league, hip parties, and a strong online presence Pinball New York City hopes to expand the pinball audience from the diehards and collectors to the video game and Facebook generation.
