Announcement | Rule Update | September 2, 2016
Since the Tuesday night division was introduced in the Spring of 2013 they have competed for the same “B” division trophy as their Monday night counterparts. This season we will introduce a third trophy meant solely for our Tuesday night competitors. As Monday night has grown to a comfortable balance of teams that fall relatively neatly into two distinct conferences, Tuesday has always felt like a bit of a third wheel. While the established formula of the Tuesday winner squaring off against the Monday night winner in the championship has more or less worked, the problem has been that there can be no clear movement between Upper Playfield teams and Lower Playfield teams.
The idea of separating teams between Upper and Lower is a good one, as clearly there is a difference in playing level throughout the league. However, playing levels are not fixed as players get better and rosters change. Therefore, it has always been my intention to move teams up or down due to performance in their respective conferences. By separating the Lower Playfield Conference into two days, there has been no easy way to create movement between the Upper and Lower Playfield teams. Because the Upper Playfield plays exclusively on Monday night, player schedules and bar availability has made it near impossible to move a stellar Tuesday team into that conference. By separating Tuesday out, this will no longer be an issue.
As Tuesday night coninues to grow, teams will naturally start to distinguish themselves from the pack, and eventually, I hope, there will be cause to create a second Upper Playfield division on Tuesday nights. This, in turn, will open the doors to once again merging Monday and Tuesday — one Upper Playfield Division, and one Lower Playfield division on each night. For now, starting this season, the two teams that finished at the top of the Monday Lower Playfield conference will move up to the Upper Playfield, and the two teams that finished at the bottom of the Upper will move down. This is not meant as punishment or reward, but rather to keep the conferences competitive and mix teams up on a regular basis. Until we have enough teams on Tuesday for two conferences, they will compete as one.
